I was sitting at my computer and received a text from my boss. The text was referring to some video and photos that he just uploaded to our ‘cloud’ for a campaign we were working on. And the text was simply, “are you going to be able to do the video tonight?” I had planned on working on the video as it was a fundraiser for our local Skate Club and we were volunteering our time. No big deal, I was just going to finish it up that night.
What happened next is eye opening….
I texted back and said, “yes, I will get it done now.” He said “That’s so Awesome!”
My response was slightly dumbfounded. I said “What is?”
He replied, “you doing that.”
It was in that moment that I could have turned my words against me. In my mind I was thinking ‘this is nothing, I am not doing anything amazing.’ But, I knew I was donating my time and that people appreciated it. So I took a deep breath and this is how I responded….
“Well, I would rather be a reading my ‘I am going to be a badass’ book then I realized I already am a badass, so I might as well do the video’s tonight.”
BOOM.
Now, some may think I am tooting my horn here but I am simply stating a positive description of how I felt inside. I could have easily texted him back saying something less positive like, “well, not really, I’m just doing my thing.” Or “That’s not really awesome, its just a video.” BUT, I didn’t, I decided to take a stand and proclaim my badassary right there, on the spot.
Now, you may not want to tell your boss you are a badass, but what I am telling you is this….If someone says your awesome, TAKE IT, hold onto it and make something out of it. That small snapshot in time, empowered me to have a great rest of my evening and to continue to proclaim truths over my life.
It is the simplicity of the words we say, then can either be major problems or complete badassary! Which will you choose?
